Majoritarian elections are about communication; but chance also plays a role.
Especially in the presidential election, chance, the unpredictable, and the unexpected played a role. Not yet, however, in Alagoas for senator and governor.
President Dilma Rousseff, despite all the attacks she suffered from the mainstream press, lost few points. Now she is growing again and improving negative indicators such as rejection. This is due to the communication factor.
When chance brought Marina Silva onto the political scene as a replacement candidate following the tragic death of Eduardo Campos, chance played its part. The emotion fueled Marina's unexpected electoral growth.
However, by chance, communication and electoral marketing enter the scene. Unprepared, the PSB candidate quickly rushed to present her government plan. Stripped bare, it was revealed to be a copy of proposals from the PSDB and even from a researcher at USP.
Dilma and Aécio exposed these contradictions, especially the president. They literally went for her shins. Furthermore, they showed that the proposed new policy contradicted her views on energy policy, the autonomy of the Central Bank, and the relationship with bankers. Marina's political career began to lose momentum.
In Alagoas, there are also examples. Senator Fernando Collor's communication is efficient in showcasing completed actions and future proposals. It makes the candidate appear lighthearted in a program that is appealing. His main competitor, Heloísa Helena, despite having limited airtime, is inefficient, ineffective, and fails to communicate effectively. In fact, in electoral terms, it's practically nonexistent; it's utterly amateurish.
In the race for governor, Renan Filho and Biu de Lira are bickering. Naturally, the one behind is resorting to confrontation. Thus, the senator is trying to discredit his opponent politically and in his personal life. Both are candidates with an open flank for attack because of relatives, father and son, who are involved in lawsuits due to personal and political issues.
A son cannot be held responsible for the actions of his father. But a father can be held responsible for those of his son. It would be better for the senator from the PP party to truly present his accomplishments while leading secretariats under Governor Vilela.
Therefore, especially in the presidential election, chance, the unpredictable, and the unexpected played a role. Not yet, however, in Alagoas for senator and governor. And since no politician can keep the unexpected under wraps, it's unlikely the current situation will change.
But communication is always crucial.
