Two bubbles

'Leaders 1 and 2 encouraged polarization. It's either us or them. Beware: if they don't choose me, they'll choose the other one. This country imploded,' writes Alex Solnik.

Once upon a time, in a distant time, in a faraway place on the planet, there was a country that became divided into two bubbles.

Bubble 1 thought everything Leader 1 did and said was fantastic, no matter how absurd his words or actions were.

Bubble 2 thought everything Leader 2 did and said was fantastic, no matter how absurd his words or actions were.

Bubble 1, in addition to defending leader 1, was committed to attacking leader 2. And if anyone from bubble 1 criticized leader 1, they were immediately seen as a traitor and became the target of attacks.

Bubble 2, in addition to fiercely defending leader 2, attacked leader 1 day and night. And if anyone from bubble 2 criticized leader 2, they were immediately publicly shamed and labeled a traitor.

Bubble 1 didn't know (nor did it want to know) what was happening in bubble 2.

Bubble 2 didn't know (nor did it want to know) what was happening in bubble 1.

Bubble 1 thought it was always 100% right, and bubble 2, 100% wrong.

Bubble 2 thought it was always 100% right, and bubble 1, 100% wrong.

The bubbles hated each other. They dreamed of the day when the other bubble would cease to exist.

Leaders 1 and 2 encouraged this polarization. It's him or me. It's us or them. Beware: if they don't choose me, they'll choose the other one.

Hopefully this never happens to another country.

Because this country imploded.
