Tell the people to go!
Perhaps you are thinking of the thousands of compatriots who died waiting in line for an ICU bed, who did not have the last chance to be rescued by the structure that involves a sophisticated respirator system and monitoring of the body's reaction to the virus, second by second.
Paraphrasing Dom Pedro I on the "Day of Staying," President Jair Bolsonaro could well make his brief speech in reverse, the "Day of Going," that is, he would need to resign from the office for which he never had the competence nor was he up to the responsibility of governing Brazil. Nor did he have sufficiently qualified, republican, and sovereign advisors, truly committed to the country, in most of the first and second-tier positions. His administration may be far from over, but it is already a resounding failure.
Starting with the president, incompetence, despite all other aspects, praised and extolled by the vast majority of the population and society since the 2018 electoral victory, is an inexorable, insurmountable mark of this government. Bolsonaro's resignation, swift and cheerful, quick and discreet, would be the least traumatic and most viable alternative to lead the nation back to the path of development, inclusion and social protection, with strong public investment in areas such as the Unified Health System (SUS), education, science, technology, etc.
The only remaining thread of hope, for us to have a government and not a (mis)government, a madness like the current one, confusion, a mere attachment to the status quo of belonging to the state apparatus, its high-ranking appointed positions, corporate credit cards, its endless perks, its FAB jets, shady deals, etc. The president, paraphrasing Dom Pedro I, in reverse, could declare: “If it is for the good of all and the general happiness of the Nation, I am ready!” “Tell the people I’m leaving.” And go answer for his actions far from Brasília.
Go back to Rio!
Go back to Rio de Janeiro, Bolsonaro, go back! And do this country a favor by retiring from public life once and for all, and dealing with the legal problems you and your sons, 01, 02, and 03, will face in so many inquiries and investigations. Your time in the Presidential Palace should be considered the worst in the history of the Republic, the most regrettable pages, surpassing even the chapters dedicated to the regimes during the military dictatorship of 1964-1985 in its negative aspects.
If you have Covid-19, even if it's just a "little flu," given your "athlete's history," as you said on national radio and TV, or your supposedly more resistant genetics to the effects of the new coronavirus, take advantage of the recovery period to reflect on what you're doing there. Perhaps reflect on the more than 65,000 deaths, as of this Monday (July 6th), and the more than 1.600.000 cases of the disease, consequences that could have been minimized if you had taken a more responsible stance regarding public health.
Perhaps he should think of the thousands of compatriots who died waiting in line for an intensive care unit (ICU) bed, who didn't have the last chance to be rescued by the structure that involves a sophisticated respirator system and monitoring of the body's reaction to the virus, second by second. He could take the opportunity to remember the thousands of deaths from Covid-19, who simply died in misery, in their homes, washed by a valley of tears, mourning and pain. Bolsonaro, tell the people to go!
