"You will get to know Bolsonaro, and Bolsonaro will destroy you."
"Who will be the next victim of the Bolsonaro Curse?", he asks.
Valdemar Costa Neto is the latest – but not the only, nor the last – victim of the curse that sooner or later strikes those who cross paths with the former president.
He was in charge of the biggest Brazilian party. He had the largest electoral and party fund. He was swimming in votes and money. Nobody remembered anymore that he had served time in prison.
It was only after associating himself with Bolsonaro that he was arrested again and saw his party at risk of losing its registration. He was released today, but his connection to the attempted coup is proven.
The list of victims is extensive.
Fabrício Queiroz, who presented himself as Bolsonaro's "friend, brother, comrade," and was Flávio Bolsonaro's chief of staff, did everything he ordered. He has been a fugitive, arrested, prosecuted, and his legal situation remains unclear to this day.
No one talks about him anymore – he was once so popular that there were carnival masks with his face on them.
Adriano da Nóbrega, the head of the "Escritório do Crime" (Office of Crime), awarded the highest honor medal by the Rio de Janeiro Legislative Assembly by then-deputy Flávio Bolsonaro, who employed his relatives in his office and was praised by Bolsonaro, was shot dead in Bahia under mysterious circumstances.
Millionaire Paulo Marinho offered his mansion for Bolsonaro's presidential campaign, but broke with him when he realized that continuing to finance the exorbitant expenses would lead to his ruin.
Gustavo Bebianno, the first hardcore Bolsonaro supporter and pioneer of the presidential campaign that nobody believed in, rose to become Chief Minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, but died suddenly after breaking with his idol.
Daniel Silveira, the man who broke the street sign for Marielle Franco Street and who was promised amnesty after threatening Supreme Court justices, remains in jail to this day.
The bully Roberto Jefferson, always the first to defend Bolsonaro and follow his rules, greeted the Federal Police agents with gunfire, and continues to face the consequences.
The military officers he brought into the government, such as Braga Netto, Paulo Sérgio, and Augusto Heleno, are on the verge of being investigated in the coup d'état inquiry, subject to long prison sentences, and to expulsion from the Army.
His former Minister of Justice, Anderson Torres, has already been imprisoned, has already been released, but is implicated in the same investigation into the coup d'état. As he prophesied in the famous meeting, he's screwed…
Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, his former aide-de-camp, has already been arrested, has already testified, and risks being expelled from the Army, therefore his military career is over. And he may return to prison for omitting the meeting of July 5, 2022, in his plea bargain testimony. His father, another friend of Bolsonaro, was caught in the crossfire regarding the jewelry and watches.
His international advisor, Filipe Martins, was arrested in the recent Federal Police operation, and no one knows when he will be released.
One of his most flamboyant lawyers, Frederic Wassef, tried to help his client by selling state gifts, was discovered, and will face legal action.
His four children have or have had problems with the Judiciary.
Alexandre Ramagem, a close friend of the older children, rose to become head of ABIN (Brazilian Intelligence Agency), was elected federal deputy, but with the discovery of the parallel ABIN, his days of freedom are numbered.
Everything indicated that Sérgio Moro would have a bright future, but after joining the Bolsonaro government, his career began to go downhill, on the verge of being removed from office by the Electoral Court.
Tasked with bringing the jewels gifted by Saudi Arabia to Brazil, Minister Bento Albuquerque has become the subject of an investigation into the alleged crime, a serious stain on his career in the Navy. He will also have to answer to the Justice system.
His followers who did not wear masks or get vaccinated, following his advice, lost their lives to Covid; those who, also inspired by him, invaded and vandalized the Three Branches of Government are imprisoned, many with very heavy sentences.
Even one of his neighbors in the same condominium, Ronnie Lessa, fell victim to the curse: after his daughter dated his son, he ended up in a maximum-security prison.
Who will be the next victim of the Bolsonaro Curse?
Tarcísio?
Zema?
Nunes?
