This Sunday, October 5th, Brazil celebrates Micro and Small Business Day, a date that, for a decade, has been the main reason for the "Buy from Small Businesses" movement, promoted by Sebrae. The initiative seeks to consolidate the understanding that prioritizing small businesses when making purchases is a decision that contributes to the appreciation of the community and local culture, generating "connection" and "belonging".

This choice, which can become an important instrument for transforming society, is within the reach of the population to strengthen the local economy through job creation, income distribution, and the mobilization of important social actors.

Brazil is one of the countries with the greatest potential for entrepreneurial growth in the world. We already have 47 million people leading a business or taking some action to create one, according to the leading global study on entrepreneurship, the GEM. And another 47 million adults who aren't yet entrepreneurs would like to have their own business within 3 years.

The relevance of small businesses also translates into the livelihood of a significant portion of the population, as indicated by the Atlas of Small Businesses, recently launched by Sebrae. Undoubtedly, the strategic importance of entrepreneurs is most evident in the area of employability. Last August, almost 85% of formal employment contracts in the country were in micro and small businesses. This data attests to the strength of this segment, which has contributed to bringing Brazil to one of the lowest unemployment levels in its history.

The act of buying from a small business, therefore, is not just a random consumer choice, but a conscious option that consumers can adopt in favor of the social and economic development of the country. It's a recognition of the importance of these businesses in maintaining the vitality of communities, in the activity of neighborhoods, and in generating benefits for local populations.
