Lula's strategy of not negotiating Brazil's sovereignty is being well received by the population.

Good news from the Quaest Institute survey: the far right, the right wing, and the part of the media that insists on bowing down to the United States are losing the power struggle to the Lula government in public opinion, in the debate about Trump's tariff hikes.

Lula's strategy of not negotiating Brazil's sovereignty, defending our institutions from American attacks, and rejecting Trump's blackmail, while simultaneously supporting the most affected economic sectors and persisting in attempts at negotiation, is being well received by the population.

On the other hand, the betrayal of the nation by the Bolsonaro clan is perceived by a growing number of Brazilians, most of whom see that Bolsonaro and his associates act out of personal interest, to the detriment of Brazil, their companies, and workers' jobs.

The improvement in Lula's government approval rating and the president's comfortable lead against all possible candidates in the 2026 election, also captured by the Quaest survey, were strongly influenced by his sovereign response to Trump's aggressions.

The institute also cites the perception that food prices have begun to fall as another important factor in Lula's good result in this poll. However, the data are eloquent regarding the positive view people have of the government's reaction to the attacks suffered by the nation. The motives that drive Trump and the Bolsonaros also do not go unnoticed.

Let's look at the data collected by the institute regarding the fare increase:

- 60% of those surveyed believe that Eduardo Bolsonaro defends his own and his family's interests. Only 23% say that the former president defends the interests of Brazil.

- 48% believe Lula and the PT are doing the right thing regarding the tariff increase, while 28% believe Bolsonaro and his allies are acting correctly.

Among those surveyed, 71% believe Trump is wrong to impose tariffs under the pretext of persecuting Bolsonaro.

51% said the tariff increase serves Trump's political objectives.

- To give you an idea of how well people are aware of the tariff increase, 84% were aware of Trump's letter to Lula announcing the new tariff.
