Bravado or coup? Brazil adrift without a government.
"Congress, the Supreme Court, Governors, the Left, the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB), cannot simply issue statements of condemnation; a confrontation is unavoidable. They want and are imposing a war agenda; they don't accept 'flowers,' all forms of counterweight that, until now, have yielded no results. It's time to delve deeper into the struggle; the call is for resistance to the coup," states columnist Arnóbio Rocha.
Fascist hunger knows no bounds.
This resurgence of Fascism gained momentum after the 2008 global crisis, when the State once again bailed out banks and corporations, created more billionaires, and cruelly excluded millions of workers. This was fertile ground for opportunistic ideas, against Politics and Democracy, and it began to gain traction in both bodies and minds.
The Springtime protests, the movements that spread around the world between 2010 and 2013 as a reaction against politicians and the state, were easily captured as the opposite of a revolutionary idea, becoming essentially reactionary. Their effects in Brazil were reflected in the subsequent elections, 2014, the coup of 2016, and reached their peak in 2018.
Brazil voted against democracy, choosing as president a declared enemy of democracy, someone who identified with non-politics. Ironically, Bolsonaro was a politician with seven mediocre terms in Congress. His sons are all politicians and hold office.
He was known for his bizarre acts, he defended the dictatorship and torture, and always said he disliked democracy, the democratic rule of law, and politics, and that he had no urbanity or civility. Zero social empathy. Even so, he was elected.
The Digital Lumpenzineta won; a horde of people lacking any civility took over the national debate, using social media as a platform. They exploited the fringes of democratic disputes, fueled by sensationalism and a clear media bias towards hatred of the PT (Workers' Party) and the left.
The media and its crusade of hatred against the PT (Workers' Party), associated with and driving force behind Lava Jato (Operation Car Wash), were fundamental in bringing all these sick people out of the gutter, with these feelings of resentment and social violence, an irrational, anti-democratic fury.
The examples are endless, it's difficult to choose just one. In yesterday's demonstrations, April 19.04th, they raised banners saying "AI-5 Now" (without a comma), calling for military intervention, while at the same time shouting in Fortaleza: "Camilo, dictator, don't let us protest!" (huh?)
Following in the footsteps of their idol, the nobody-turned-president Reich speaks of, who preaches hatred and that's what motivates them.
Worse, they arrived at the central government without projects, without anything, only to destroy the State, and quickly began to create new enemies, including among their backers, such as Rodrigo Maia, Dória, and part of the Supreme Court, who were complicit with this horde, allied themselves with it, and now that they no longer serve the purpose, they will be devoured by it.
The events of Sunday, April 19th, indicate that Bolsonaro, his family, and the rabble surrounding him want BLOOD, they couldn't care less about the pandemic, which they believe to be part of a communist coup against him. Collective paranoia is what makes them strong and dangerous; the risk of a coup or civil war has never been so present.
All of their targets—Congress, the Supreme Court, Governors, the Left, the Brazilian Bar Association—cannot simply issue statements of condemnation; a confrontation is unavoidable. They want and are imposing a war agenda; they will not accept "flowers." All forms of counterbalancing have, until now, yielded no results. It is time to delve deeper into the struggle; the call is for resistance to the coup.
Without this, just like what happened with the coup/impeachment, they'll shut everything down and barbarism will take hold for good.
PS: Notes on Fascism:
- Fascism is, first and foremost, a state of mind (or mood); it is, first and foremost, emotional, residing in the unconscious, somewhat hidden, always threatening to reveal itself, to denounce us. It is present in our private conversations when we talk about sexuality, football, or religion, or when we become embroiled in the conflictual relationships of an increasingly paranoid society, especially on social media where base instincts prevail, to the detriment of logic and reason.
- Fascism takes hold slowly, gradually gaining body and soul; it's not an immediate thing, but rather the result of a state of affairs. In economic crises, it explodes and becomes a living, visible social force, because under these conditions the level of personal frustrations rises and ambitions (personal or collective) cease to be satisfied or remain far from being fulfilled.
- Essentially, Fascism is a child of (Neo)liberalism; it is the offspring born from the entrails of the economic and political exclusion of broad masses, and the maximum concentration of wealth. It is a state that fails to respond to basic needs, because the central logic is non-intervention, "freedom" for the few, with access to all resources and the state serving them.
