Bolsonaro, the nation's public enemy number one.
During his four-year term, he led the country disastrously through the pandemic and appears to have acted in favor of the genocide of the Yanomami people.
With each passing day, the notion that former president Jair Bolsonaro is a criminal of perhaps unprecedented historical significance in this tropical region of Latin America is factually confirmed. The blunders of the deranged senator Marcos do Val (Podemos-ES), a rabid Bolsonaro supporter through and through, therefore constitute yet another set of evidence or proof that Bolsonaro did in fact conspire to stage a coup. The Bolsonaro faction wanted to prevent the inauguration of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and perpetuate itself in power.
In an interview given to journalist Kennedy Alencar, this Thursday (02), Lula himself said he had no doubt about the materiality of his predecessor's involvement in successive coup plots. However, this statement is of capital gravity, as it is an accusation made by the President of the Republic against the conduct of a former president. As Alex Solnik, analyst at 247, observed, if Lula said he was sure, it is because he really is sure, having been informed that there is a robust body of evidence incriminating Jair.
In this sense, the histrionic and grotesque performance of the Podemos parliamentarian is yet another unfavorable element for the far-right former president, one of the most despised national and international figures at the moment. As is known, Marcos do Val reported that Bolsonaro had received him at the Alvorada Palace to discuss yet another "infallible plan" aimed at carrying out the coup through an induced wiretap of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) minister, Alexandre de Moraes, who, in this version, would end up in prison.
Genocide and coup
To recap, do Val was allegedly in the company of former federal deputy Daniel Silveira, who was arrested again by the Federal Police (PF). Later, the extremist senator backtracked, attempting to protect Bolsonaro and reiterating that his objective is to oust Alexandre de Moraes. Now, we await the next chapters, perhaps involving the revelation of what promises to be the bombshell content of Silveira's cell phone, seized by PF agents. As you can see, Bolsonaro is heavily implicated in alleged crimes ranging from genocide to attempted coups.
Let's see: during the 2022 election process, the former president gathered ambassadors from dozens of countries in Brazil to announce that electronic voting machines are not reliable and therefore, if he were not re-elected, there would have been fraud, according to the twisted reasoning of Bolsonaro supporters. Throughout last year, betting on his own re-election, he instituted the so-called Secret Budget, allocating billions of reais, secretly, to parliamentarians from the government's base.
This maneuver constitutes the greatest case of abuse of political and economic power during an electoral process. Jair's candidacy was propelled by the most intense phenomenon of mass dissemination of information on record, both to denigrate Lula's candidacy and to promote his own. In four years in office, he led the country disastrously during the pandemic and appears to have acted in favor of the genocide of the Yanomami, plagued by malnutrition, mercury poisoning, murderous miners, and rapists. Public enemy number one?
