Bolsonaro more than deserves it.
"No woman deserves the horror of rape, but Bolsonaro deserves the Supreme Court's decision, which upheld his convictions in the lawsuits filed by the Attorney General's Office and by Congresswoman Maria do Rosário (PT-RS), to whom he said he wouldn't rape her because she 'doesn't deserve it.' Now, feminists are mobilizing to ensure that the Supreme Court, in addition to indicting him, swiftly judges both cases and convicts Bolsonaro. A congressman convicted of a crime, with a final and unappealable judgment, automatically loses his mandate"; this comment is from 247 columnist Tereza Cruvinel; for her, "Bolsonaro deserves the conviction and the resulting removal from office for having contributed, in this case, to the strengthening of the rape culture, so inherent in our lives."

Bolsonaro deserves condemnation and the resulting removal from office for contributing, in this case, to the strengthening of rape culture, so deeply ingrained in our lives. And for his constant contribution to the spread of barbarity, as the most voted federal deputy in the state of Rio de Janeiro. He deserves condemnation because he has abused the leniency of the authorities towards those who trivialize violence against women, disrespect democratic values, and incite hatred and prejudice. The signs carried by the group of young fascists who, last week, staged a scene of violence and incitement to hatred at the University of Brasília (UnB), shouting against "leftists," "parasitic gays," and other hateful slogans, belonged to Bolsonaro. By voting in favor of opening the impeachment proceedings against President Dilma Rousseff, Bolsonaro honored the brilliant Ulstra, the most well-known and brutal of the commanders of the torture chambers of the dictatorship. It was a crime of advocating torture.
Being right-wing is one thing, a choice guaranteed by the freedom of ideological belief enshrined in the Constitution. It's quite another to systematically violate constitutional principles, as Bolsonaro does. The bad example of public figures like him has fueled the culture of hatred, resentment, and intolerance that has taken root in Brazilian society, suppressing even within families the coexistence of diversity and plurality. By condemning him, the Supreme Court will be instructive, as it has been in other decisions related to the primacy of civilization over barbarism. For example, by legitimizing racial quotas and giving substance to the crime of racism, by authorizing abortion in cases of anencephaly and stem cell research.
