Bolsonaro and Trump are two peas in a pod.

"Every day it becomes clearer that Americans and Brazilians were manipulated by the cunning Steve Bannon, through social media, to elect Donald Trump and Jair Bolsonaro, two individuals who, under normal circumstances, would never have reached the presidency of their respective countries," says columnist Ribamar Fonseca; along these lines, he observes that, despite the support of "an army of almost five thousand bots operating on the Internet in his favor," "the people, dumbed down by Globo, will continue to believe that he is the savior of the nation, even after confessing his unpreparedness by revealing that he understands nothing about economics and was not born to be president."

Bolsonaro and Trump are two peas in a pod.

It becomes clearer every day that Americans and Brazilians were manipulated by the cunning Steve Bannon, through social media, to elect Donald Trump and Jair Bolsonaro, two individuals who, under normal circumstances, would never have reached the presidency of their respective countries. If someone had fallen into a coma four years ago and woke up already under the rule of both men, they certainly wouldn't believe it was possible and would imagine they were living a nightmare. The two are very similar, not physically, but with crazy ideas and a commitment to fighting everyone. In Trump's case, who presides over one of the world's greatest powers, the world lives in permanent tension, expecting him to start a war at any moment, which is not impossible if he remains in office. As for Bolsonaro, his remaining in the Palácio do Planalto (Presidential Palace) means guaranteeing the dismantling of Brazil, increased poverty, unemployment, and the end of our sovereignty. One gets the impression that both are an abortion of history.

This Steve Bannon, who saw the internet as the most efficient communication system in the world – far superior to traditional mass media – created a mechanism for producing and distributing fake news on social networks that reaches all segments of society, in the most remote places. Its effectiveness lies in the fact that no one needs to sit in front of a television during news broadcasts or buy a printed newspaper to stay informed: they just need to turn on their device, their cell phone, wherever they are. This strategy worked in the elections of Trump and Bolsonaro and could also work in Netanyahu's re-election in Israel. Bannon, who advised Bolsonaro's campaign, is now advising the Israeli prime minister and has become the most dangerous right-wing extremist in the world, with his services being sought by extremists around the globe. Perhaps that's why he feels entitled to interfere in everyone's lives, which led him to suggest that Brazilian Vice President Hamilton Mourão resign and join the opposition. That's quite audacious.

Foreigners, incidentally, are feeling very comfortable in the captain's government. The Minister of Education, for example, the Colombian Velez Rodriguez, who has already called Brazilians thieves, intends to rewrite Brazilian history to teach children that the 64 military coup was not a coup, but a democratic movement that "saved" our country from communism. This is an affront to the intelligence of Brazilians and a disrespect to the memory of the victims. In this respect, he may even count on the valuable collaboration of Minister Dias Toffoli, president of the Supreme Federal Court, for whom the dictatorship was also not a coup, but a "movement." According to gossip, there are already fears in the Supreme Court that its president, given his strange behavior upon assuming office, might soon intend to exchange his judicial robes for a general's uniform, considering his close ties to the military today. It is worth remembering, as an illustration, that he has a general on his staff, which is influencing his decisions. The removal from the agenda of the case regarding imprisonment after a second instance conviction, which was to be judged on the 10th and could benefit Lula, was allegedly ordered by the military, according to a report by journalist Ricardo Noblat.

But returning to Trump and Bolsonaro, Bannon's two protégés, it's not difficult to see that they have much in common, such as advances and retreats in their governments. The American president, among other things, backed down from his intention to destroy North Korea for refusing to halt its nuclear weapons program and even became friends with Kim Jong-Un, with whom he has fraternized twice. More recently, after saying he would close the border with Mexico in light of the failure of his project to build a wall, he reversed course and has now said he will no longer make that decision. Bolsonaro, in turn, amidst many ups and downs, quickly forgot his promise not to engage in the old quid pro quo politics and gathered the presidents of the political parties to negotiate the approval of the pension reform. The most curious thing is that Gilberto Kassab and Geraldo Alckmin, presidents of the PSD and PSDB parties respectively, left the meeting stating that they would not participate in the government's allied base in Congress because they are "independent," but they will approve the captain's proposal. Alckmin even said: "We will vote with Brazil." In other words, "Brazil, our beloved homeland." The PSDB members could appoint the new Minister of Education if the Colombian is dismissed.

Meanwhile, Minister Sergio Moro, lacking the same media coverage he enjoyed from Globo before leaving Lava Jato, decided to follow his boss's example and joined social media, convinced of its efficiency, to deliver his messages. In this way, like the captain, he will avoid answering uncomfortable questions such as what happened to the investigations into the suspicious activities of former aide to current Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, Fabricio Queiroz? And what about the senator's alleged links to militias? Transformed into a superhero by Globo, Moro seems to intend to prepare the ground for a possible presidential candidacy in 2022. He is reportedly convinced that, with the prestige gained with the decisive help of the family-owned media, he has a chance of reaching the Palácio do Planalto (Presidential Palace). To this end, he intends to use the same scheme as Bolsonaro, who, according to an American university, has an army of almost five thousand bots operating on the internet in his support, with thousands of posts every day. With this group hammering away daily on social media with fake news favorable to the captain, the people, dumbed down by Globo, will continue to believe he is the savior of the nation, even after he confesses his unpreparedness by revealing that he understands nothing about economics and wasn't born to be president. It remains for him to clarify: why did he run for office?
