Billions in corruption to save a corrupt individual.
"Temer's vote-buying, between June and October of this year, to block the two criminal charges against him has already reached the stratospheric sum of R$ 32,1 billion. Another R$ 4,2 billion in individual parliamentary amendments from deputies, with mandatory execution since 2015, have also already been committed by the government," assesses Deputy Chico Vigilante (PT-DF); "With this incalculable fortune used as a bargaining chip to continue the corruption of a man who is precisely being prosecuted for corruption, more than 13 million hungry mouths in the Bolsa Família program would have guaranteed continued access to food, education, and health, and not continuous cuts to the program. Brazil is a rich country, but Temer is leading us to misery and despair."
The purchase of votes by Temer, between June and October of this year, to block the two criminal charges against him, has already reached the stratospheric sum of R$ 32,1 billion.
Another R$ 4,2 billion in individual parliamentary amendments from deputies, with mandatory execution since 2015, have also already been committed by the government.
The pace of releases is set by the government, and this mechanism was used by Temer as a corruption machine to block the first accusation, and is certainly being used for the vote on the second one, this Wednesday, November 25th.
According to the Transparency and Budget Unit of my office, which has been monitoring the release of amendments, there has been a 495% increase in the amount of money released if we compare only the period from September to October 2016 with the same period in 2017.
For the coup plotter's vote-buying scheme, the 20-year spending freeze doesn't work.
Has any sector of our economy—GDP, industrial growth, family farming, any sector whatsoever—experienced significant or even minimally significant growth? No.
With that money, Brazil could have hundreds of new schools, instead of mud-and-wattle shacks like those existing in various regions; it would have many more houses from the "Minha Casa Minha Vida" program, which dwindled during the Temer era.
With that fortune, the country could build more and better roads to transport our production; students and professors would see our universities saved from penury, neglect, and the lack of funds for extremely important research, as is the case today.
Brazil is a rich country, but Temer is leading us to misery and despair.
With that kind of money, our doctors and scientists with scholarships to study at major universities around the world wouldn't be forced to return to the country due to inhumane budget cuts; our hospitals wouldn't be killing machines for patients due to a lack of equipment, specialist doctors, and management.
With this money well spent on our nuclear submarine program, initiated years ago by the military, we would have been monitoring the Brazilian coast and our 200 nautical miles since last year with the security that the Brazilian people deserve.
With that money, we could certainly guarantee public policies to end child labor and slave labor in the country.
With this incalculable fortune used as a bargaining chip to perpetuate the corruption of a man who is being prosecuted for corruption, more than 13 million hungry mouths in the Bolsa Família program would have guaranteed continued access to food, education, and healthcare, instead of continuous cuts to the program.
To remain in power in the Presidential Palace with his cronies, continue handing over Brazilian wealth to multinational corporations or foreign states, and completely dismantle the social and pension rights of Brazilians, the coup leader, it seems, would betray his own mother if necessary.
