Constantine's attack on the Constituent Assembly shows that the struggle is on the right track.

To oppose a congressional arena that cleans up the country is the same as maintaining the mechanisms that prevent structural changes in the country; this is the position of the paranoid columnist from Veja magazine.

Veja columnist Rodrigo Constantino, who has become known as the spearhead of the aggressive right wing, wrote an article to "warn" society about the danger of the campaign by more than 200 organizations to convene an Exclusive and Sovereign Constituent Assembly for the Political System.

Constantino, nicknamed "Crazy Boy" for his "bold ideas," denounces the "coup plot of a constituent assembly to establish a 'direct democracy'," allegedly spearheaded by a group of communist organizations. "Brazil is at serious risk. Our democracy is threatened. We must react!" asserts the paranoid columnist.

Constantino's words prove that social movements, unions, student organizations, and associations are on the right track with the campaign. The Cold War-era language used by the columnist enhances the organization and confirms that conservative sectors see a Constituent Assembly as central an enemy as communism was in the 20th century.

Constantino's clichés and platitudes against the campaign demonstrate that, despite placing corruption as one of the major national problems, he does not admit to a profound political reform that would alter the roots of a corrupt model.

To condemn corruption in a general way without presenting a proposal to combat it is nothing more than empty words, creating a smokescreen to cover up political and electoral interests that aim to defeat the PT (Workers' Party).

Most members of the National Congress will not accept a profound reform of the political system, since they adapted to the existing rules in order to get elected, and they want them maintained to guarantee the continuity of these same deputies and senators in Parliament.

Those who place the responsibility for making these changes on Congress either want the political system to remain the same or suffer from a childlike naiveté in believing that this power structure can reform itself.

Hence the need for a new congressional arena, elected under different rules, to democratically debate changes to the political system, in light of the interests of society, which were clearly manifested in the mobilizations of June last year.

Conservative sectors criticize the political game, but they don't want to truly change the rules. The cosmetic changes being discussed in Congress are nothing more than a charade to deceive society, because they don't solve the problems of the political system.

Constantino, acting as a sounding board for conservative sectors, is actually warning us that we will only see change in the country if there is a Constituent Assembly for the Political System. Those who want to counter the conservative offensive see the campaign for a Constituent Assembly as the main instrument to confront the gears of power that prevent structural changes in our country.
