Action against Lula's son: informing and police abuse take root.

"Throughout its three years of existence, Lava Jato rewarded informants and used their testimonies to convict without supplementary evidence, sending the message that the Federal Police, the Public Prosecutor's Office, and sectors of the Judiciary will always be open to punishing based on them. From there to the vulgarization of denunciation against adversaries was a small step," writes Tereza Cruvinel, recalling that "it was internal adversaries of the former rector who denounced him to the ombudsman and the police for acts committed in a management much earlier than his, leading to moral pain that was unbearable for him"; "If there was an anonymous denunciation against Marcos Lula, it certainly came from adversaries of the former president, in the boundless persecution that is underway against him," observes the journalist.

The betrayal by colleagues was what hurt the former rector of UFSC, Luiz Carlos Cancellier, the most, leading him to commit suicide last week after suffering an abusive and demoralizing arrest. Now, the São Paulo Civil Police points to an anonymous tip as the origin of the search and seizure operation carried out at the home of former President Lula's son, Marcos Lula. The tip mentioned drug use at the location, but nothing was found. The culture of denunciation, instilled by Operation Lava Jato, has begun to permeate the social fabric, and combined with the hypertrophy of police and judicial power, serves to consolidate the State of Exception.

Throughout its three years of existence, Lava Jato rewarded informants and used their testimonies to convict without supplementary evidence, sending the message that the Federal Police, the Public Prosecutor's Office, and sectors of the Judiciary will always be open to punishing based on them. From there, the vulgarization of denunciation against adversaries was a small step. It was internal adversaries of the former rector in internal disputes at the University who denounced him to the ombudsman and the police for acts committed in a management much earlier than his, leading to moral pain that was unbearable for him.

If there was an anonymous complaint against Marcos Lula, it certainly came from the former president's adversaries, in the boundless persecution that is underway against him, aimed not only at disqualifying him electorally, but also at demoralizing, trampling on, and destroying the trust he has with the majority of the population, as the polls show. But even if there was a malicious anonymous complaint, the São Paulo Civil Police still owe explanations. For, as the PT (Workers' Party) state deputies questioned, if there was a complaint against a residence, why was the search and seizure operation carried out at two addresses, the previous one and the current one?

And so the seeds of fascism and the State of Exception germinate, where no one is safe. A resentful adversary can wreak havoc on the life of any one of us.
