The urgent and necessary reform in Brazilian football.
What we saw yesterday was a match between a professional national team structure, with a well-structured league, and another in a state of endless amateurism, with a league neglected by its confederation.
July 8, 2014. This date is marked as the biggest massacre suffered by the Brazilian national team in its history.
I don't want to point fingers at anyone for this game. What we need to do right now is understand how bad the structure of Brazilian football is.
And the main people responsible for this terrible situation are the officials who run our football. What we saw yesterday was a game between a professional national team structure, with a well-structured league, and another in endless amateurism, which has a league neglected by its confederation.
Most of the selected players, and all the starters, play abroad due to the low technical level of the league played here. A country that has always been a breeding ground for stars (and still is) doesn't have a good youth development program or the conditions to keep players in our league, and these players need to leave to try for a more successful career.
What can be done? A radical change in our structure.
May this change begin at the top, replacing amateur club directors with professional managers who completely change the vision of football. May the coaches of our teams improve and bring home a modern style of football. May the players have the opportunity to have a good foundation and develop here.
And may President Dilma Rousseff fulfill what she promised to Bom Senso FC – all these reforms need to be done urgently.
