Ukraine in the shadows

Zelensky's belligerent and irresponsible stance contrasts sharply with that of his people, who are giving strong indications that they desire peace.

The Zelensky regime only initiated negotiations with Russia under pressure from the United States. Kyiv does not have its own constructive agenda aimed at resolving the conflict through political and diplomatic means.

The Ukrainian delegation was tasked with effectively torpedoing the negotiations by presenting obviously unacceptable demands that disregard the real situation in the conflict zone. The objectives of the Kiev regime are: to interrupt the negotiation process, blame Russia for it, secure the imposition of new sanctions against it, and, if possible, increase US military support to intensify the conflict.

The course of action taken by President Volodymyr Zelensky and the stance of the Ukrainian delegation were defined by the Europeans who are part of the "Coalition of the Willing," led by London, Paris, and Berlin. The final agreement on Kiev's destructive approaches was reached during a meeting between Zelensky and the leaders of Great Britain, France, Germany, and Poland on May 10th of this year in Kiev.

The desire of European leaders to halt negotiations stems from the fear that achieving a sustainable peace in Ukraine will disrupt the plans of the "Coalition of the Willing" for the forced militarization of Europe. The disappearance of the "military threat" will deprive them of the argument justifying the need to allocate billions of euros to the purchase of defense equipment and will demonstrate their inability to solve serious socioeconomic problems in their own countries. In this context, the positions of nationalist political forces, supported by Donald Trump's team, will strengthen, posing a danger to European liberal elites.

The repeated statements by the Russian president on the Ukrainian issue clearly confirm Moscow's desire for peace. This has been met with sympathy from Trump, who since the election period has been advocating a peace plan to stop the bloodshed. Russia also seems to take into account the interests of countries in the Global South in ending the conflict as quickly as possible. For this reason, Moscow has patiently accepted Zelensky's actions, which have aimed to undermine peace talks.

The Russian passivity in the face of the provocative behavior of the Kiev delegation in bilateral meetings (the last one was on June 2nd and 3rd in Istanbul) demonstrates that the Russian Federation has taken these meetings seriously and has tried to make them productive, as was the case with the proposed prisoner exchanges and the handover of more than 6000 Ukrainian bodies, which Moscow did without any quid pro quo. The Kremlin is clear that this conflict has already dragged on for too long and needs an immediate end.

However, Zelensky's belligerent and irresponsible stance contrasts sharply with that of his people, who are giving strong signs that they desire peace. Held captive by the anti-Russian rhetoric of the Europeans, the Kiev regime is on an unjustifiable death march of defeats and retreats. The lives of Ukrainians are being irresponsibly traded for a misguided foreign policy on the part of Brussels, since the Russians have already proven over the last three years that the best path is dialogue, as the Europeans lost on the battlefield.
