The reactivation of the left
From our side [the left], we must fight for democracy before we are once again subjected to a regime of kidnappings, torture, and summary executions.
Paulo Guedes and Bolsonaro made Brazil's GDP perform worse than during Temer's two years in government. A journalist asks: "President, are you going to talk about the GDP?" The president returns to the "comedian" Carioca dressed as himself... And asks, laughing: "What is GDP?" "Paulo Guedes is the one who answers that." Anyone who defends him must be sick. The country had a GDP of 1,1%, economic stagnation, unemployment, currency devaluation, reduced purchasing power, decreased income, population indebtedness, and a cuckolded president - Bolsonaro making 'gun' gestures is already dangerous, imagine him making horns around town when he sees a red flag.
It's lamentable, but this is the state of the nation. A country so rich and diverse in its biodiversity (now not so much, due to environmental deforestation) subordinated to the irresponsible actions of the head of state. Putting on a comedian to try and distract from the GDP failure is a mockery by Bolsonaro of the 12 MILLION unemployed and 38 MILLION Brazilians who are in the informal sector and without labor rights. Instead of presenting solutions, there is humiliation of these families. Remember those who asked for a minimal state? Bolsonaro is fulfilling his promise: no medicine, no schools, no universities, no labor laws, and no retirement. You now have autonomy. However, don't forget that the state remains maximal to guarantee the profits of banks and large corporations. Bolsonarism is a kind of generalized inversion of values: buy a gun, educate without schools, eat poison, cut down trees, kill minorities, and live without art. It's the darkest phase of Brazilian history. A mental health evaluation of the president must be urgently demanded. It's not normal for someone to take advantage of public money, official car, official press, security guards… It's a crime! And the worst part: the whole society is the one that paid for the "comedian" Carioca to make a mockery of my face, your face, our face! When it comes to democracy, I like to use the words of Victor Hugo, author of Les Misérables and The Hunchback of Notre Dame, "Between a government that does evil and a people that consents to it, there is a certain shameful complicity." Despite this revolutionary and progressive wave surrounding Brazilian politics, the left has failed, yes, it has failed. I'm not referring to weakened electoral campaigns or anything like that, but to the actions that were not taken by leftist leaders and their supporters. For example, Petra Costa's film, The Edge of Democracy, disturbs the conscience of a generation of journalists who have to look in the mirror and ask themselves where they were to allow themselves to be used as a transmission belt for a power project that manipulates the Justice system and the press, putting democracy at risk.
Currently, they want to reframe the Military Coup as a heroic act and the soldiers as saviors of the nation. If this continues, I fear that the regime will not be addressed in the curriculum for a long time. In a way, people want to like their government, asking for protection. Consequently, thinking that the people who "hold the strings" care about us is pure ignorance, because in this way they achieve the blind loyalty of a large portion of the population through a simple act: dictating right and wrong. If these people publicly say that they were right to commit atrocities – rapes, tortures, murders – the naive people agree, because it is their "function" to have faith in their government – nobody wants to believe that we are dispensable. This thought is historically ingrained in society, but from time to time the questions that so fear state power come to the surface.
From the militia neighbor to the call for the closure of the National Congress, the Fake President has a lot to explain. From our side [the left], we must fight for democracy before we wake up again under a regime of kidnappings, torture, and summary executions.
