The fall of Bolsonaro, fascism, and the Varginha alien.
"Brazilians continue to believe in imaginary aliens and real fascists because they are treated as normal things," writes Moisés Mendes.
A doctor explained to Bolsonaro what happened in the incident where the bed fell in the Federal Police cell. All the newspapers published the explanation. The summary is as follows.
Cardiologist Brasil Caiado stated that he attempted to reconstruct the incident with the former president on Wednesday and that, based on the injuries, he determined that the president fell while trying to walk.
This text, as it appears above, was published in Folha. The man who attempted a coup and was tried and convicted as the head of a criminal organization reenacts his own fall in his cell with the help of a doctor.
Both conclude, based on the hypotheses raised, that Bolsonaro did not fall out of bed, but that he must have tripped while trying to walk after getting out of bed.
The man who, until a few days ago, was presented as a possible presidential candidate if he were granted amnesty, based on statements from his sons, Valdemar Costa Neto, Tarcísio de Freitas, and Malafaia, among others, didn't know if he fell out of bed or fell while getting out of bed.
Doctor Caiado is certain that Bolsonaro cannot be left alone in prison, because he could fall again. In the United States, newspapers have stopped listening to the platitudes of experts in international conventions and law in order to understand Trump.
They're listening to neurologists, who are pointing out something wrong with the neo-fascist's mind. Because nobody wants to know anymore whether it's legal or not for the president of one country to kidnap the president of another nation. Nobody can stand debating anymore, as if it were normal, whether fascism is normal.
It's so common that research institutes continue to ask Brazilians about Bolsonaro. Whether he should be in prison, whether he's imprisoned for his mistakes (and not for his crimes), or because of persecution by Alexandre de Moraes.
The population is encouraged to reason based on premises only used to talk about fascists. Never before has fascism received so much coverage from media corporations, always being placed alongside approaches to speeches by democrats, as if they were equivalent.
If a democrat, even one on the right, says something, a fascist has to appear as a counterpoint. Because the major newspapers and corporations in general need to accommodate the demands of Bolsonaro's supporters, giving in out of cowardice and for ratings.
What was once called liberalism, in its broadest sense of ideas and values, and not just economic conception, is today a haven for far-right ideas and figures. Bolsonaro, Trump, Mili, and others have subjugated the old right.
And so the inevitable question arises once again: when will we get rid of them? Is it fair, reasonable, and ethical that half the world hopes for the death of Bolsonaro and Trump?
Here's the most obvious answer: yes. It's due to the natural instinct for survival and the legal principle of self-defense. At the same time, we ask ourselves: if these principles didn't exist, would we be in this situation?
And there's no way to guarantee anything. Not even if they die soon will we be free from similar leaders, capable of continuing, through inheritance, to guide the actions of their bases, not all of whom are openly extremist.
Half of Brazil gives electoral support to the far right, even though 40% of Brazilians declare themselves moderate in polls, just as a third believe in the Varginha alien. Because corporate media help legitimize these agendas.
Brazilians believe that Bolsonaro and Michelle were chosen by God, that Trump kidnapped Maduro to save Venezuela, and that Tarcísio de Freitas is a lost member of the PSDB party pretending to be a Bolsonaro supporter.
Trump said in an interview this week with The New York Times: “My own morals. My own mind. That’s the only thing that can stop me.”
Bolsonaro also considered himself unstoppable, and today he doesn't know if he fell out of bed or if he fell because he got out of bed.
