The death machine that doesn't allow us to be indifferent.

Unfortunately, however much we might wish otherwise, the force of international law only prevails if, behind it, there is also real force, that is, military force.

From our daily social interactions, we know that the application of the law will always depend on who is being subjected to it. It is more than evident that a police patrol does not behave in its routine work with the same respect for the law, regardless of the social origin of the people it approaches.

When operating in a favela, it is very common for police officers to enter the homes of its humble inhabitants in a brutal manner, without any concern for respecting the human dignity of those people. In contrast, in a residential area with a higher socioeconomic level, or upper-middle class, the behavior tends to be very different.

Regarding international law, the same phenomenon applies. No nation will be respected if it does not have sufficient power to enforce respect. This is evident in the fact that the United States, the country that has committed the most transgressions of international law throughout history, has never received any punishment from any international body for violating norms that others are forced to observe. This occurs simply because the United States does not yet have any other country or institution that obliges it to abide by the terms of international law.

In light of the foregoing, for a country like Brazil, it is not in our best interest for there to be only one country, or one bloc of forces, in the world that is able to impose its will on others without feeling constrained. In other words, it is in our interest to have a dilution of the military forces of hegemonic countries that can prevent any one of them, or any one of the blocs, from acting without fear of adverse consequences.

Therefore, the video linked at the end of the text will be very useful in helping us understand how the United States' military is positioned around the world and what this may mean for our dreams or aspirations of living as an independent and sovereign nation.

It is due to what we have observed in this video regarding the military power of the United States that any outcome in the current conflict in Europe that favors increasing or maintaining the current level of US military intervention capacity will necessarily clash with the interests of the people of countries outside the global capitalist center, such as the Brazilian people.
