28 Brazilian organizations demand an end to the American blockade against Cuba during a time of pandemic and solidarity.

While the Cuban government exports doctors to various countries to help contain the global health crisis, the American government, in an inhumane and totally unprecedented act, maintains the blockade against the Cuban people.

If the economic blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States for more than five decades already has a genocidal character by its very nature, and, as we have already reported, was tightened by the Trump administration, in times of a global pandemic it becomes an unprecedented absurdity.

While the Cuban government exports doctors to various countries to help contain the global health crisis, the American government, in an inhumane and totally unprecedented act, maintains the blockade against the Cuban people, preventing the island's population from developing and helping to contain the coronavirus in all corners of the planet.

Therefore, considering that Cuba is demonstrating a role of global solidarity with more than 14 medical brigades from the Henry Reeves Contingent, fighting the pandemic with 593 healthcare professionals worldwide who risk their lives to save others, and that these teams are extremely respected around the world.

Considering, furthermore, that for many decades Cuban doctors have acted in this role – of aid and solidarity – around the world, especially in the poorest and most needy areas of the world, the entities (listed below) conclude, addressing themselves directly to the American President Donald Trump:

"Mr. President, humanity is crying out for help. Heed the plea for help from everyone, as other rational leaders around the world are doing. End the blockade against Cuba for the good of all. This is the only acceptable measure at such a difficult time for all of us and for your own country. End the blockade now!"

Your Excellency's decision will be decisive in how your administration will be evaluated by history.
