Venezuela denounces Trump at the UN and accuses him of violating the UN Charter.
Venezuelan government calls for international response and warns of risk of military escalation in the Caribbean following statements by Donald Trump.
247 - The Venezuelan government released an official statement on Wednesday (15) accusing US President Donald Trump of publicly admitting to authorizing operations aimed at destabilizing the country. Caracas described the US leader's statements as "belligerent and extravagant," stating that they constitute a "very serious violation of International Law and the Charter of the United Nations." as reported by RT.
According to the statement, the Venezuelan government considers Trump's remarks "unacceptable and unprecedented," and has asked the international community to condemn the statements made by the White House, which are considered "immoderate and inconceivable."
The statement also expresses “extreme concern” about the use of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the US military presence in the Caribbean, which, according to Caracas, represents a policy of aggression, threat, and hostility against Venezuelan sovereignty. The text argues that such actions aim to “legitimize a regime change operation” to seize control of the country's energy resources.
Complaint filed with the UN and appeal to CELAC.
During an extraordinary meeting of foreign ministers from the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), convened by the pro tempore presidency of Colombia, Venezuela formally denounced Washington and demanded an immediate regional response to what it describes as an escalation of US interventionism.
The statement also informs that Venezuela's permanent mission to the United Nations will submit a report to the Security Council and the UN Secretary-General this Thursday (16), demanding accountability from the US government and urgent measures to prevent a military escalation in the Caribbean, declared a zone of peace by CELAC in 2014.
"The international community must understand that impunity for these acts will have dangerous political consequences that must be stopped immediately," the text states.
Furthermore, the Venezuelan government denounced the use of anti-immigrant rhetoric by US authorities, which, according to Caracas, fuels xenophobic narratives and repressive policies.
