Trump wants to take control of PDVSA, says Wall Street Journal.
The White House is reportedly planning to "exercise some control" over the Venezuelan state oil company.
247 - US President Donald Trump and his advisors are developing a plan to "exert some control" over Venezuela's state-owned oil company PDVSA, reports The Wall Street Journal. According to sources cited by the newspaper, the plan under development envisions the acquisition and sale of most of the company's oil production.
The US president himself told his aides that he believes his efforts could help reduce oil prices to what he considers the ideal level of $50 per barrel, according to sources. Furthermore, Washington's initiative is reportedly aimed at dominating the Venezuelan oil industry in the coming years, according to the WSJ.
On Saturday, the United States launched a large-scale military aggression in Venezuelan territory. The operation ended with the kidnapping of Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, who were taken to New York. Caracas classified Washington's actions as a "very serious military aggression" and warned that the objective of the attacks "is none other than to seize Venezuela's strategic resources, in particular its oil and minerals, attempting to forcibly break the nation's political independence." Maduro pleaded not guilty on Monday, in his first hearing before the United States Justice system, in the Southern District Court of New York, where he is accused of narcoterrorism. Flores did the same. Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez was sworn in on Monday as interim president of the South American country. (With information from...) RT).
