247 - US President Donald Trump and Colombian President Gustavo Petro met on Tuesday (3), at the White House for a meeting that lasted about two hours and marked a change of tone in bilateral relations between the two countries, after months of tensions and mutual accusations, according to reports by the Associated Press and other international agencies.

Trump described the meeting as "very good," highlighting that despite previous disagreements, the two leaders managed to establish a more positive dialogue. Similarly, Petro stated that the conversation was guided by a "positive and optimistic outlook," emphasizing that themes such as freedom and cooperation were central to the discussion.

In addition to commenting on the content of the conversations, Trump told the press, after the meeting, that he and Petro "weren't exactly the best of friends," but that he didn't feel insulted by the criticism because he didn't know the Colombian president personally before the meeting.

Petro, in turn, highlighted the constructive nature of the meeting and said that the joint agenda includes cooperation in combating drug trafficking, a sensitive issue for both governments, as well as regional issues such as trade, security, and the situation in Venezuela.

Although the meeting was viewed positively by analysts, no concrete agreement was announced immediately after the talks. Diplomats and government officials from both countries stated that dialogue should continue in the coming weeks, focusing on advancing joint initiatives and reducing historical disagreements.
