Earthquake hits Ecuador, Peru, Chile and Mexico
So far, 14 people have died and 120 have been injured.
247 - Ecuador, Peru, Chile and Mexico were hit by an earthquake this Saturday (18). The first tremor occurred in Ecuador at 12:12 local time (16:12 pm Brasília time) and had its epicenter in the municipality of Balao, about 140 km from the port of Guayaquil, and at a depth of 44 km.
The earthquake in Peru was of lower intensity (around 4,5), affecting the northern and central coast. So far, no casualties or significant damage have been reported.
In Mexico, the tremor measured 3,3 on the Richter scale and was felt 12 km northwest of the municipality of Uruapan, at 13 p.m. local time (16 p.m. Brasília time).
In Chile, the 4,6 magnitude earthquake was felt at 17 PM local time in the Sierra Gorda commune (same time as Brasília).
The Oceanographic and Antarctic Institute of the Ecuadorian Navy stated that the tremor "does not meet the necessary conditions to generate a tsunami" in the Pacific, according to reports. UOL.
