Gabriel Boric's first measures include a salary cap and restrictions on hiring relatives in the government.
Two directives are being prepared by the incoming government that define the composition of its Executive teams.
From the Regional News Agency - The new government of Gabriel Boric has prepared two directives that establish salary caps and restrict the hiring of family members in the new government.
The measures target the honorary salaries of employees at La Moneda, the seat of the Chilean government, and so-called exclusive trust positions, La Tercera reported on Wednesday.
Regarding employees hired on a paid basis, their salaries cannot exceed 50% or 65% — in the case of employees with postgraduate degrees and at least 15 years of experience in public service — of the salary of the undersecretary of each ministry. Today, an undersecretary earns approximately US$7.000.
The document, which was provided by the morning newspaper, points to "rules of austerity and transparency in the hiring of personnel (...) within the State Administration that allow for the reduction of current gaps, establishing limits on high salaries."
On the other hand, for positions of exclusive trust, the hiring of relatives up to the third or fourth degree of consanguinity, including concubines, will be restricted.
"There is enormous distrust in the institutions in which we live; it is necessary not only to strictly comply with the law in force, but also to be attentive to the loopholes that the current regulations leave and to prevent possible risks that could further damage people's trust in the State," the document adds.
Boric takes office this Friday as head of the Chilean state, as one of the leading emerging left-wing figures in Latin America.
