Petro raises his tone against the US and also Europe at the CELAC-EU Summit: "that's where the Nazis were born"
The President of Colombia is hosting this year's high-level meeting.
247 - Colombian President Gustavo Petro delivered a combative speech on Sunday (9) in which he confronted Europe and its allies, such as the United States, who have been illegally attacking civilian vessels in the Curibe Sea, where the CELAC-EU Summit is being held.
In his speech as host in the coastal city of Santa Maria, Petro questioned the origins of the Eurocentric concept of democracy and raised his voice by stating that "it was there that the Nazis were born," in front of high-level leaders of the European bloc.
"Democracy is the power of the people," he stressed, citing the legacy of slavery and colonization on indigenous peoples, who, according to him, are the true source of democracy.
He also criticized the fabrication of the concept of narcoterrorism, stating it was a fabrication and asserting that "the same missiles that fall on Gaza fall here on the Caribbean," referring to US military attacks that, according to him, lead to the murders of homeless families.
"Here, in the heart of the world, we have to take care of the world, a global democracy, a unanimous humanity... How do we make democracy a reality in the world?" Petro asked as he concluded his opening speech.
