247 - Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced on Sunday (26) that US citizens who are in the country without a visa must present themselves to immigration services. The decision comes after the US Embassy in Colombia announced that it would stop issuing visas to Colombians.

"There are 15.660 Americans living in Colombia illegally. They should contact our immigration service to regularize their status," Petro announced on his X account.

Tensions between the two countries began after Colombia's president criticized the Donald Trump administration's immigration policy and banned planes carrying deported migrants from entering the country. In response, the U.S. Embassy in Colombia made the decision regarding visas. "The dignity of Colombia and Latin America comes first. Migrants are human beings and have rights, and should be treated as such," criticized Gustavo Petro.
