Latin American Parliament calls on US to remove Cuba from list of state sponsors of terrorism.

For Parlatino, the inclusion of the island on this unilateral list is unfair and unfounded.

Latin Press - The Latin American Parliament (Parlatino) urged the United States government on Thursday (14) to remove Cuba from a list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism.

In a statement from its Board of Directors, the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (Parlatino) highlighted that the regional legislature has historically opposed the use of unilateral coercive measures, considering them contrary to international law.

For Parlatino, the inclusion of the island on this unilateral list is unfair and unfounded, as stated in its declaration at the XXXVIII Ordinary Assembly of that institution last December.

According to the text, just days after the US government declared that its agencies had no evidence to keep Havana on the list and removed it, the new Donald Trump administration ordered its reinstatement.

The Latin American Parliament (Parlatino) highlighted that this arbitrary and unilateral measure aims to maintain the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed on the largest of the Antilles for more than six decades.

The US blockade, Parlatino adds, remains in effect despite the United Nations General Assembly having called for its lifting every year since 1992.

This policy of economic strangulation causes serious material damage, encourages emigration, violates the right to development of the Cuban people, and has an extraterritorial character by affecting third parties in their commercial or financial relations with Cuba, the message concludes.
