"Political hatred and fascist violence are threats to democracy in Latin America," says Dilma after attack on Cristina Kirchner.

"May political violence, wherever it comes from, not be able to obstruct the civilizational progress of peoples throughout the world," declared the former president.

"The attack on the life of Argentine leader Cristina Kirchner by an armed Brazilian deserves the condemnation of the entire world. Political hatred and fascist-like violence, fueled by extremist politicians, are a threat to democracy in Latin America," declared Dilma, expressing solidarity with Cristina Kirchner: "My firm wish is that her country, Brazil, and Latin America overcome this situation and return to the path of peace and stability."

"And may political violence, wherever it comes from, not be able to obstruct the civilizational progress of peoples throughout the world," he said.

The Workers' Party member also heaped praise on the Argentinian leader. "Cristina Kirchner is one of the greatest leaders on our continent. She represents the fight for democracy and against inequality. The expressions of appreciation she always receives from the people in the streets demonstrate how much she is loved. Violence cannot win!"

The president of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, also received expressions of solidarity from the former Brazilian president.
