247 - Venezuelan National Assembly deputy Nicolás Maduro Guerra released a message on Tuesday (13) from his father, Nicolás Maduro, who is imprisoned in New York along with the first lady, Cilia Flores, after being kidnapped by US forces on January 3. The couple also offered support to the Venezuelan interim president, Delcy Rodríguez. The reports were published in a report by telesur.

“Yesterday we received a message from him and her,” reported Maduro Guerra during a mobilization of the transport sector in Caracas. “They say they are firm and strong, that they are clear about the role of struggle they must play, that they maintain a clear conscience and faith in God and the people of Venezuela,” he continued. “They trust Delcy, the team that is leading her, and us. That was the message they sent us yesterday,” added the deputy, commenting on Maduro's support for the interim president.

The US aggression is a result of the interest of the Donald Trump administration and American businessmen in Venezuelan oil. According to figures released by OPEC, Venezuela has the largest oil reserves in the world (303,3 billion barrels), followed by Saudi Arabia (267,2 billion barrels), Iran (208,6 billion barrels), Canada (163 billion barrels), and Iraq (145 billion barrels), rounding out the top five. Brazil ranked 15th.

In addition to oil, the US had launched an offensive at the beginning of the second half of last year that resulted in more than 120 deaths in 35 attacks by US forces against boats allegedly involved in drug trafficking.

This argument about combating drug trafficking has been used by the Trump administration in an attempt to violate the sovereignty of Latin American countries. However, as progressive leaders in Latin America point out, the US interest lies in weakening the economies of countries on the continent to favor US interests.

Reaction

In Venezuela, a large national caravan has formed in defense of the release of Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores. Organizers denounce violations of national sovereignty and international law.

Venezuelan parliamentarian Nicolás Maduro Guerra appealed to the Venezuelan population to preserve unity. “We must remain united and not allow anything to divide us. They will try to sow discord and spread versions to confuse, but in the face of this, political and ideological clarity is necessary,” he declared.

The Minister of Transport, Ramón Velásquez Araguayán, reinforced the call for national unity. “The bombs, when they fell, were not intended for Chavistas nor for opponents; they affected everyone in the same way. It is necessary to be aware that President Nicolás Maduro, commander-in-chief of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces, wants the people to remain at peace,” he said.

Mobilization

Transportation workers gathered at strategic points in the capital, such as the Poliedro de Caracas, the Bicentennial Monument, Bolívar Avenue—in the areas of Carabobo Park and the National Museum of Architecture—and the Paseo de la Revolución, forming a unified column towards the city center. The goal of the mobilization is to demand the immediate release of the presidential couple and denounce foreign interference.

Since January 3rd, popular sectors have maintained a continuous presence in the streets, reaffirming their support for the government led by interim president Delcy Rodríguez and rejecting actions considered threats to the country's sovereignty. Demonstrations of solidarity with Venezuela have also been registered in different countries, with public acts in regions of Latin America, Europe, Asia, and the United States.

In addition to actions on Venezuelan territory, the current president of the United States, Donald Trump, authorized military operations in the Caribbean and the Pacific under the justification of combating drug trafficking, increasing regional tension. These episodes have been cited by Venezuelan authorities and international observers as part of a broader context of military and political pressure in the region.
