The Milei government proposes removing the crime of femicide from the Argentine Penal Code.
The Argentine Ministry of Justice confirmed the proposal.
247 - The government of Argentine President Javier Milei announced this Friday (24) that it will defend the elimination of the concept of "femicide" from criminal law. However, according to Argentine media, the federal administration itself does not have high expectations regarding the progress of the project, reported the AFP agency.
The Minister of Justice, Mariano Cúneo Libarona, announced the proposal. “We will eliminate the crime of femicide from the Argentine Penal Code because this administration defends equality before the law enshrined in our National Constitution. No life is worth more than another. As President Javier Milei said in Davos, feminism is a distortion of the concept of equality that only seeks privileges, pitting one half of the population against the other,” he wrote on the social network X.
"For years, women have been used to line their pockets and undermine men. Regardless of our gender, we are all equal before the law and deserve the same protection and respect."
To change the Argentine Penal Code, a law must be passed in Congress, where the ruling party is in the minority facing strong center-left opposition.
