Sputnik - Former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori (1990-2000) is in stable condition in a Lima hospital after being admitted for heart problems, the country's Public Health Social Security (EsSalud) said in a statement. The former president suffers from pulmonary fibrosis and atrial fibrillation.
"The patient was admitted on Monday, February 6th, at 21:42 PM [02:42 GMT on February 6th] to the emergency department of Hospital II Vitarte with an irregular heart rate. The on-duty medical staff managed to stabilize the patient, and he is in the observation room. Further tests have also been ordered," the institution informed in a statement shared on Twitter.
Fujimori, 84, is currently serving a 25-year sentence in a Lima prison after being extradited from Chile in 2007 and convicted of crimes against humanity committed during his presidency.
