247 - After the voting process ended in Ecuador this Sunday (9), the official counting of votes for the presidential election began.

Preliminary results from the National Electoral Council (CNE), in the early hours of Monday (10, Brasília time), indicated: Daniel Noboa with 44,37% of the votes, Luisa González with 43,86% of the votes and Leônidas Iza with 5,16%. The current result, with approximately 89% of the ballots counted, would lead to a second round between Noboa and González.

If no candidate receives 50% plus one vote, or at least 40% with a 10-point difference over the second-place candidate, a second round of voting will be held on April 13th.

According to the CNE (National Electoral Council), the voting proceeded normally. More than 13,7 million voters were called to the polls to choose the new president of Ecuador. Voter turnout exceeded 83% of those eligible to vote, according to the electoral authority.

Diana Atamaint, head of the CNE (National Electoral Council), said late Sunday that Ecuador's presidential race will go to a second round in April if current vote counting trends continue.

Voters will also elect 151 members of the National Assembly.

After the data was released by the CNE (National Electoral Council), candidate Luisa González was the first to speak. The results were described by the Correa candidate as a "great victory".

The two rivals also faced a runoff election in 2023.
