Delcy Rodriguez thanks Lula for his support of Venezuela.
The acting president stated that she spoke with the Brazilian president on Friday and reported violations of international law.
247 - Venezuela's Vice President and Acting President, Delcy Rodríguez, stated that she held talks with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on Friday, in the context of what she described as a "serious criminal, illegal and illegitimate aggression" against the Bolivarian Republic. The statement was published by Delcy on her Telegram account, where she also reported having spoken with the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, and the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez.
According to Delcy, during the contacts she detailed the armed attacks against Venezuelan territory, which, according to her account, resulted in the murder of over a hundred civilians and military personnel. She also denounced "serious violations of International Law," including the alleged violation of the personal immunity of constitutional president Nicolás Maduro and first lady Cilia Flores.
In the passage where she mentions Brazil, Delcy says she especially thanked President Lula and the Brazilian people for the "support and assistance" given to Venezuela "during the most critical moments" after the aggression that culminated in the kidnapping of President Nicolas Maduro and Vice President Cilia Flores. She adds that, in the dialogues, there was agreement on the need to advance a broad bilateral cooperation agenda, based on respect for International Law, the sovereignty of States, and dialogue between peoples.
Delcy also reported that, in her conversation with Gustavo Petro, she reaffirmed that Colombia and Venezuela are brother countries and that they must move forward together to address common problems, based on mutual respect and regional cooperation. Regarding Pedro Sánchez, she stated that she appreciated the Spanish government's position in condemning the aggression and expressed interest in working on a broad bilateral agenda that is beneficial to both peoples and governments.
At the end of the message, Delcy declared that Venezuela will continue to confront the crisis through diplomatic means, in fidelity to the principles of the so-called Bolivarian Diplomacy of Peace, which, according to her, would be the way to defend the country's sovereignty and preserve peace.
