The proposal was made by the head of the US Southern Command, Laura Richardson.
Sputnik - Colombian President Gustavo Petro revealed on Tuesday (24) that his country possesses Russian military equipment requested by the United States to send to Ukraine, something that Colombia rejected.
"The United States asked us to hand it over to Ukraine, and I told them that the Colombian Constitution mandates peace," the president said during a press conference at the 7th Summit of Heads of State of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) in Buenos Aires.
Petro explained that his country possesses Russian equipment, such as helicopters, which have maintenance problems that cannot be resolved, since "assistance is currently impossible."
On Thursday (19), the head of the US Southern Command, Laura Richardson, declared that Washington is cooperating with nine Latin American countries so that they transfer to Kiev the Russian-made weapons in their possession, in exchange for supplies of American weapons.
In this regard, Russia indicated that it will closely monitor the situation regarding possible arms deliveries from Latin America to Ukraine, said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
Latin American countries maintain neutrality regarding the Ukrainian conflict.
