247 - The BRICS mechanism offers Bolivia and other countries in the Global South a new platform to participate in global governance, defend their rights to development and amplify their voice in international affairs, said Bolivian President Luis Arce, according to statements released by Xinhua on Sunday (6).
From Latin America, Arce and also the Cuban president, Miguel Díaz-Canel, will attend the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, between this Sunday and Monday (7).

The bloc—originally formed by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—has expanded its ranks in recent years. In addition to Iran, countries such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Ethiopia, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia have joined the five founding members. Nations such as Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, and Uzbekistan are listed as partners of the group, according to the most recent information.
Today, according to Sputnik data, the BRICS countries represent approximately 48,5% of the global population and 39% of the world's GDP.
Since January 1st of this year, BRICS has been under the rotating presidency of Brazil, guided by the motto "Strengthening Cooperation in the Global South for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance".
